February 2017

A 2nd Act is a national program that celebrates and supports women survivors of ALL cancers who are using their newly realized gifts of life and experience to give back for the greater good.

Since everyone loves a good story, the program has put together a stage performance featuring a cast of eight women survivors from the Mesa, AZ area. Jan Coggins and her talented dog Bozeman are among the performers. Jan’s 2nd Act was to start a successful pet therapy program and Bozeman is an early graduate.

September 2016

I was diagnosed with Stage 3 C ovarian cancer in 2010. I fought it and was well on my way to restarting normal life. Then, in 2012 the cancer came back. Recurrences are sucker punches: they hit you hard physically and psychologically. After surgery and chemotherapy, I remained on maintenance Avastin until June 2016 when a CT scan and good blood work gave me the all clear. Ovarian cancer can be very scary and unpredictable, but for right now, I am embracing each day with gratitude and much joy.

Arizona Oncology was with me every step of the way so when they asked me to appear in a TV commercial to let others know about their work, I was happy to be there for them. The commercial is airing locally and you can view it here.

March 2014

Jan was nominated in the New Author category at the prestigious 2014 Tucson Book Festival. This honor gave her the opportunity to showcase her book while spreading the word about this dreadful disease.

September 2013

Jan was honored to receive the 2013 Crusader Award in recognition of her contributions for cancer awareness as well as her determination and perseverance in her efforts. Created by the Anne Rita Monaghan Foundation, it is given each year to an individual considered to be an outstanding ovarian cancer crusader. Pictured here is Jan (on right) sharing the spotlight with chemo nurse Vicki Aime. Jan credits Vicki with playing a large role in Jan’s survival.

Some things to note

Jan’s aim when creating the Teal It Up! Foundation was to help provide vital research funding to reliable organizations in their efforts to find a cure for ovarian cancer and to further educate the community about signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.

The Foundation has flourished under Jan’s careful eye. Today, it is a 100% volunteer organization with 98% of the proceeds going directly to the cause.

In 2014, the Teal It Up! Foundation donated $25,000 to the Stand Up 2 Cancer Dream Team in memory of Ellen Johnson, a founding member of the board.
